Floor Activity at 2010 EXPO
EXPO 2016 will feature sixty frames of exhibits for your viewing. There will also be 1-page and 4-page mini-exhibits. Exhibitors vie for numerous awards, and the awards will be presented Friday evening at our Awards Banquet. Three judges, certified by the American Philatelic Society, will evaluate the exhibits. In addition, EXPO attendees will be given a ballot which allows them to vote for the Texas Stamp Dealers Association's Most Popular Exhibit award. The winner will be announced Saturday around 2 pm. Be sure to mark your ballot and drop it in the box near the Registration table.
As of July 18, our exhibit chairperson, Ray Cartier, advises that more exhibits are needed, whether simple one-page, one-frame, or multi-frame. Please advise Ray if you are planning to submit any kind of exhibit for the 2016 MCSC EXPO. Currently, only 4 of our 106 members are participating in this aspect of EXPO. It would be nice to see some others taking an interest in supporting their club this way. Many once popular shows are no longer being held because of a lack of interest among the members. Help keep EXPO alive and sample one of the best ways to make your collecting more fun, and more interesting, as you begin to study what you collect more closely.
Science Fiction - EXPO 2016 Theme
Mid-Cities Stamp Club announces the first Court of Honor at a MCSC EXPO. Mr. Van Siegling, whose 8-frame exhibit on Harry Potter has been awarded the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors Diamond Award for being awarded 10 WSP Gold medals, will attend the 2016 Mid-Cities Stamp Show. Mr. Siegling is a Director of the American Topical Association. His collecting interests include dinosaurs, pirates, sumo wrestling and Lord of the Rings, as well as Bergedorf, Tannu Tuva, Biafra and Katanga. Van is a member of the Journalists, Authors and Poets on Stamps Society, as well as the AAPE and local clubs in Michigan and Ohio. He was also named as interim Executive Director of the American Stamp Dealers Association. Retired from Federal Civil Service, Van promotes "philatelic magic" and will bring his cape and wand to the 2016 Expo, where he will also be the Speaker at the EXPO 2016 Show Banquet.
Our popular Giant Mixture Pick will be held near the exhibit frames in the northwest corner of the convention hall. Join fellow collectors in a 4-table search for low-cost worldwide stamps.
Our Beginning Collectors Center will assist new collectors and young collectors with games, contests and prizes. The center will be located near the southwest corner of the convention hall
Our popular Chance Board will be held near the exhibit frames in the southwest corner of the convention hall. Take a chance for some nice worldwide stamps.
Our Silent Auction will be held on the Convention Hall stage. Included in the wide range of philatelic items available to bid on will be single stamps, entire collections, philatelic literature and several "Mystery Boxes." This year we will again feature a Buy it Now option. If you see an item you want you can have it for the Buy It Now price and take possession immediately. Many items go for bargain prices so be sure to stop by and put in your bids. Auction winners can pick up their purchases between 2:30 pm and 4 pm Saturday.
After 8 years as the MCSC EXPO Chairperson, Stanley Christmas is passing the torch to Ralph Poore.
Everyone appreciates the tremendous job Stan has done as EXPO Chairman. Our annual show has been well run, well publicized, and most of all well received by North Texas collectors.
